Spoilers – Warning, the article below contains potential spoilers. If you do not want to know the content, please do not read the following…

Following on from 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Zoe Saldana stars as Gamora, the ruthless space warrior and adopted daughter of Titan, the latter killed in Avengers: Infinity War.

Thrown into the void to allow the Soul Stone to appear, we saw it reappear a year later in Avengers: Endgame. Indeed, after the time travel carried out by the superheroes in the last film of the Russo brothers, another version of Gamora was able to integrate the main reality of the story and therefore took the place left by her deceased.

However, before Gamora and his cohorts return this week in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, James Gunn, director of the trilogy, recently told Mic. ComicBooks.com That the warrior was supposed to die a year before Infinity War… from Guardians of the Galaxy 2!

“Gamora almost died in Vol. 2”He thus confided, specifying that he had originally considered sacrificing her instead of Yondu (Michael Rooker).

(…) I was going to kill him. I thought he was the one who was going to sacrifice himself and that Quill was going to learn things about himself. (…). Kevin more or less got me back and Lou (…). It didn’t feel right, it made a lot more sense to go in the direction we went with this movie, it felt right for the story. I think I was afraid of being killed then Michael Rooker because he’s a friend of mine.”

Always at the microphone comicbooks.com, James Gunn explained that he also had to make his plans with the Russo brothers, the directors of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, in mind. When the latter called him to ask if they could kill Gamora in Infinity War, the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy therefore agreed to take this data into account and integrate it into his own scenarios.
