Despite the 1-0 defeat at Newell’s Old Boys, Tuesday night was a special night for young Deivid. The striker had his first chance as a starter for Santos. After the match, the guy highlighted the good feeling of the “debut”, but he regretted the result.
“A good feeling, but also sadness. Sad for the defeat, but happy for the team’s commitment, which has always given. Unfortunately, the best team doesn’t always win. We have to improve every training session to qualify,” he said.
“Unfortunately, the best team doesn’t always win, but we’re growing. We still have three games left and we’ll try to qualify,” he added.
Deivid played for the full 90 minutes and almost scored a goal early in the second half. The attacker dribbled past the defender and invaded the area on his own. The Menino da Vila, on the other hand, tried to dig and missed the target.
Manager Odair Hellmann even praised the 17-year-old’s departure and bemoaned the missed goal.
“Another youngster, another Menino da Vila made his debut. Great debut, with personality, he deserved to score. Football deserved that goal and so did we,” he commented.
Deivid started Santos after Marcos Leonardo was ruled out of the match. The number 9 experienced fever and body aches on the eve of the match.
A promise from the Peixe youth academy, Deivid has so far made three professional appearances.
