Bridgerton on Netflix: Is there a Queen Charlotte-centric spin-off like the original series?

With The Bridgerton Chronicle, Shonda Rhimes, the pope of American fiction, dusted off the historical drama genre. It cannot be said that his interpretation of the English Regency conquered the whole world, because less than three years after the start of season 1, the series established itself as one of the most important successes of the Netflix platform. Alongside the new chapters, the designer is launching a spin-off centered around Queen Charlotte.

Why this character in particular? Although others deserved their own series, the colorful personality of the sovereign quickly won her fans, especially since she is portrayed by actress Golda Rochevel.

It was through this character that Shonda Rhimes broke the codes and chose an actress of Guyanese origin to play the role of the queen. His skin color has long been a matter of debate among historians, and the showrunner decided. This derivative project makes it possible to answer several questions about him: How did he come to power? How did he meet King George and how did their difficult relationship begin?

The series takes viewers back 40 years to the events of The Bridgerton Chronicle. It was India Amarteifio who portrayed the character in her younger years, but good news for fans: Golda Rochevel is back too. During the episodes, the past and the present meet. The ability to find characters from the original series, such as Lady Danbury, but also Violet Bridgerton.

This prequel uses the same formula to trick its audience, but still offers a darker tone, especially when it comes to King George’s illness and the many treatments he suffers. The young ruler is played by Corey Milcherist. The two actors bring a real breath of fresh air to the screen and make a successful duo with great chemistry. And this is the main strength of this series: their love story is believable, and so are they.

If the first good forwards can lose a few newcomers, La Reine Charlotte is still a great gateway for those who have never seen La Chronique des Bridgerton. Those who, on the other hand, remain hermetic to rosewater romances will remain on the fringes. Another good news is the series doesn’t want to go on too long. The last episode ends with a very beautiful sequence, a beautiful ending to this origin story Sold as a limited series.
