Even the prequel trilogy, which features the origins of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and also has passages hated by fans, was not butchered like this new trilogy – and unlike the classic trilogy, by far the most popular with the community at large.
But then why is the new trilogy considered the worst of all? Check it out here with Game start the main reasons.
Lucasfilm was sold to Disney

Plans for the new trilogy begin with Star Wars creator George Lucas selling his production company Lucasfilm and all of his work to Disney in 2012. When that billion-dollar sale took place, Lucas handed over the sketches he had made for the story of Episodes VII, VIII and IX for Bob Iger, president of Disney at the time.
One of Lucas’s requirements for the deal was to hire Kathleen Kennedy, his longtime professional partner, as his replacement as Lucasfilm studio president. Kennedy was chosen by Lucas to fill that position so that she could fight and protect her legacy, standing up to Disney executives if necessary.

However, when the deal was finalized, Kennedy sided with Bob Iger and Disney, and all of the material and ideas George Lucas had provided for a new trilogy, as well as his involvement as a creative consultant, were completely eliminated.
Kennedy decided to take a new direction with the franchise, and several directors and writers appeared, until JJ Abrams was hired as director in 2013 (he also wrote the screenplay, along with Lawrence Kasdan and Michael Arndt).
The force awakens

Thus, Abrams and Kennedy decided that the best route for the new trilogy would be to return to the roots of the first film, a fact that became one of the great criticisms of Episode VII: The Force Awakens, considered by many fans as a mere repetition of Episode IV: A New Hope (something also criticized by George Lucas later), without adding anything new to the franchise.
Another highly criticized point was the death of Han Solo in a totally useless scene and without the grandeur that the character deserved. One of the great expectations of fans for The Force Awakens was to see the trio of original heroes, Luke, Leia and Han, reunite one last time and pass the baton to the new protagonists. Instead, not a single scene with the three of them together was shown, which disappointed many people.

Furthermore, even the stories chosen for the three veteran heroes were not liked at all, showing a Han who had separated from Leia and had returned to the decadent life of a smuggler; a Leia with no Jedi training as a leader of a resistance and a Luke who only showed up in the last scene of the film, without saying a single word.
Following the release of The Force Awakens, Kennedy and Abrams revealed that there was no planning with the story of the three films, and that until then no one knew what would happen in the next two releases, and each director would be free to to do it. what he wanted. he wanted. Something strange to say the least, coming from the person responsible for guiding this entire immense universe.
The Last Jedi

But still, it was against this background that Rian Johnson was brought on board in 2015 to direct and write Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, a guy who took seriously all the creative freedom granted by Kennedy and set out to deconstruct the whole formula created by the franchise since 1977, starting with the greatest hero in the galaxy: Luke Skywalker.
One of the biggest fans expectations for The Last Jedi was to see Luke as a great Jedi master training protagonist Rey, but instead we were presented with a cowardly, failed Luke and a grumpy old man. Surely one of the biggest disappointments in the history of cinema, especially for those who have spent the last 40 years inspired by one of cinema’s greatest heroes. Mark Hamill himself, the actor who plays Luke, was sharply critical of his character’s direction in the film.
But as if that weren’t enough to end the entire Luke Skywalker mythology, Johnson also decided to kill off the great antagonist, the mysterious Supreme Leader Snoke, thus leaving the trilogy without a villain.
The negative reception and devastation from The Last Jedi fans was so great that Kathleen Kennedy decided that the third film, Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, would seek to undo everything that had been done in The Last Jedi and try to deliver those millions of fans have been waiting for.
The Rise of Skywalker

So Colin Trevorrow, director of Jurassic World: Jurassic World, confirmed director and screenwriter of the third film, was fired for “creative differences” with Kennedy, and JJ Abrams was called in his place, with the mission to please the fans and ” fix” whatever was wrong.
It obviously failed in its task, the damage was too great, and The Rise of Skywalker was heavily criticized for presenting an uninteresting script, full of holes and things poorly explained (typical of Abrams, by the way). , as well as desperately trying to please a fan base (which he didn’t achieve).
One of the major criticisms of the film is the return of Palpatine without any explanation, thus devaluing the entire story of the first six films and the Skywalker lineage, which concludes with the villain in the classic Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
Rather than “try to fix it and please the fans,” perhaps the best approach for Episode IX would be to continue following the creative freedom given The Last Jedi with Colin Trevorrow’s original script (which was rewritten by Abrams), which involved different story arcs for Rey, Finn, and mainly Kylo Ren, who would have no redemption and be evil to death.
But after all who is to blame for the direction and the bad reception of this new trilogy? From directors Rian Johnson and JJ Abrams? From Kathleen Kennedy, the manager of the entire circus? Or the fans themselves, who have gone down killing by making Disney “try to fix” the wrongs? Leave your opinion on our discord.
