In a statement, Santos denies meeting and angering the cast after the marketing action with fans

Santos issued an official statement on Friday afternoon and denied reports that a marketing move by the club had caused irritation among some players.

In the game against Newell’s Old Boys on Tuesday for Sul-Americana, Peixe called for some 20 supporters of the team to travel with the team to the city of Rosário, Argentina, to watch the game.

The Web site supersport, then, this Friday published the news that the behavior would have caused the discontent of some athletes of the squad, who would have called a meeting with the president Andres Rueda. Santos, however, denied the information.

According to the club, there has been no meeting to address the matter. Santos says the last meeting held had board members, technical commission and cast, before the victory over América-MG, 3 to 2, with the aim of setting goals for the Brazilian championship.

Peixe also said the athletes weren’t irritated by the presence of fans on the trip. Finally, the club confirmed that it will continue to promote actions that bring fans closer to the team and considers the matter “closed”.

The team returns to the field this Saturday, to face Cruzeiro, at Independência, for the fourth round of the Brasileirão. The ball rolls from 16:00 (Brasilia time), when Odair Hellmann’s side will look for a second triumph in the competition.

“In relation to the article, published by the Superesportes website, written by the journalist Bruno Lima, entitled ‘Santos: marketing action irritates the team and causes an emergency meeting at the CT’, Santos Futebol Clube clarifies that:

1 – There was no meeting with the players to talk about the above topic; Yes, there are regular meetings with president Andres Rueda, the coaching staff and the players on football-related matters, which we always think are very useful. The last meeting was before the match against America, to discuss goals for the Brazilian, NEVER in the presence of the fans.

2 – Above all, the players, at no time, have shown dissatisfaction with the participation of the fans in support of the team. On the contrary, this is an action that everyone understands is necessary to bring fans closer to the club.

3 – The players mentioned by name in the article – João Paulo, Vladimir, Eduardo Bauermann, Lucas Lima and Alison – deny the information that they would have refused to travel.

4 – The Club will continue to support actions that bring fans closer to the team.

Santos FC considers the matter closed.”
