Podcast: When Harry Potter meets One Punch Man, it’s the incredible pitch for this delightful new series!

“chocolate!” “Cream puff!” No, it’s not a list of delicious cookies, but the words from the end credits of a new Japanese anime series: Mashle. Adapted from Hajime Komoto’s eponymous manga (Crunchyroll Editions), this program takes place in a world where possessing magical powers is the norm.

But on the contrary, anyone without power is punishable by death. Raised in the countryside by her adoptive grandfather, Mesh Bernedide lives a carefree life, making up for her lack of strength with impressive muscles gained from intense training.

This bodybuilding and cream puff lover is nevertheless discovered by a police officer who offers him a deal: join the Easton School of Magic to become God’s Chosen (the name given to the most powerful wizards) or face the death penalty. Faced with this choice, which is not one, Mash agrees to join the crowd of apprentice wizards his age.

As you can tell, Mashley stands in the register of parody, his initial postulate leads to a kind of incredible crossover between the world of Harry Potter (to which the series makes many references) and the absurd comedy of One-Punch Man. A completely incredible concept, but one that works wonders!

The Animehameha team is back at the start of the Mashle event, and is giving an initial review of the series after its first three episodes aired. Mashle’s animated series follows each week with simulcasts exclusively on the Crunchyroll platform!
