The writers once again put Hollywood in check, and Marvel’s tight schedule could undergo changes with their protests.
Blade’s Marvel revival with Mahershala Ali had once again been temporarily shelved. The Marvel Cinematic Universe movie has already had a rocky ride, but it was at the point where pre-production was well underway and it was preparing to begin shooting in Atlanta, with ‘True Detective’ creator Nic Pizzolatto signing on as screenwriter.
But now The Hollywood Reporter claims that the pause button has been pushed again due to the Writers Guild of America strike, this being the main film affected.
The post also notes that Marvel Studios projects commonly get rewritten on the fly and notably, citing that the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield scenes weren’t fully confirmed until cameras had already been rolling for a month, and that 25 pages of the ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ script were written on the set of the film.
The studio has many projects in the works, with ‘Captain America: New World Order’, ‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos’ and ‘Ironheart’ all currently in production, and ‘Deadpool 3’ and ‘Thunderbolts’ set to begin filming in the upcoming weeks.
Will those projects be similarly paused or go ahead as planned? If so, how will the lack of a writer on set affect them, assuming the strike doesn’t end in the next few weeks?
The WGA’s last strike lasted from November 2007 to February 2008, so it could potentially be a long one, with a lot of turmoil in the industry.
The latest Marvel movie, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3’ has just been released in theaters in Spain with very positive reviews and receptions.
