The Federal Supreme Court has already formed a majority to place another 250 defendants in the dock for the January 8 coup plotters. Ministers Gilmar Mendes, Dias Toffolli, Edson Fachin, Cármen Lúcia and Rosa Weber accompanied the rapporteur Alexandre de Moraes to initiate prosecutions against the perpetrators and instigators of the anti-democratic offensive.
The highest court analyzes the third block of charges presented by the Attorney General. The first waves of complaints have already been received and 300 suspects have been placed in the dock. The STF has also already set a date to judge the PGR’s charges against more than 250 coup suspects.
For the moment, only judge André Mendonça has remained isolated in the trial, who defended that the STF only receives the accusations regarding 50 radicals named as perpetrators of the acts of vandalism recorded on the 8th.
According to the magistrate there would be insufficient evidence to accept the complaints against the 200 alleged instigators of January 8, arrested in the camp set up in front of the Army Command in Brasilia.
The position is the same expressed in other judgments of the STF. In other cases, the divergence opened by Mendonça was accompanied by minister Kassio Nunes Marques.
