Tonight on Netflix: The gripping true story of the Mafia’s first “scale.”

Netflix subscribers, rush to this wonderful movie currently available on the platform, The Betrayer of Marco Bellocchio, based on a true story and a fascinating account of what was called “The Trial of Max”.

The story takes place in the early 1980s, when the Sicilian mafia is divided between different godfathers. Tommaso Buschetta, part of Cosa Nostra, another name for the mafia), flees to Brazil, while murders in his home country abound and his relatives are hunted down and killed. Arrested in Brazil and then extradited, Buschetta meets with Judge Falcone and “wraps up” his former comrades. A decision that will cost him dearly…

Although the film mainly follows Buschetta, the real hero is Judge Falcone, who is under a lot of pressure to carry out the “mob trial”.

This trial is also one of the brave parts of the feature film. By his own admission, Bellocchio treats it like an opera, removing all the glamor one would expect from cinematic depictions of the Mafia to show the ridiculous techniques mobsters use to try to escape prosecution or buy time for trial. Far from the Hollywood images often associated with Cosa Nostra, Traitor chooses to point out the folly of its members.

“maxi-spin”

As for Tommaso Buschetta, played by Pierfrancesco Favino, he manages to bring both the ruthless and ruthless gangster to life and show that the shell can be cracked open and the underdog can be just as broken as anyone else, at worst.

Give a chance to this excellent film that brings into focus a well-known story (Judge Falcone’s fate has already been told in Giovanni Falcone or Il Capo dei Capi) this time marrying the point of view of the person who spoke. Stunning realism.
