This new spin-off of ‘Game of Thrones’ pauses its development due to George RR Martin’s “absolute support” for the US writers’ strike

“I’ve been through several of these since I started writing for television and film in 1986. The issue is important, and I’ve never seen the trade as united as it is now.”

The current American writers’ strike is jeopardizing an endless list of projects in development, who have seen their production processes stopped until further notice. Among them is the new spin off of ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Errant Knight’who has stopped his writing room, as confirmed by the author of the original novels, George RR Martin, via his personal blog.

The writer, who has also given rise to ‘The House of the Dragon’, the first prequel spin-off of the famous HBO series, based on his novels ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’, took advantage of its publication to communicate more progress on other of the projects that it has underwaylike the second season of ‘Dark Winds’.

I’m not in Los Angeles, so I can’t demonstrate with a banner like I did in 1988, but I want to clarify my total and absolute support for my union,” he wrote.

“How long will this strike last? No idea. Maybe the members of the Growers Association will come to their senses tomorrow and offer some meaningful concessions and it’ll be over next week. I wouldn’t bet much on it though.”

I have been through several of these since I began writing for television and film in 1986. The 1988 strike, the first I was a part of, lasted 22 weeks, the longest in Hollywood history. The one from 2007-2008, the most recent, lasted 100 days. This maybe lasted longer. The matter is important, and I have never seen the guild so united as now.”

The development of this spin off was announced in the latest Warner Bros. Discovery content presentation, in which it was reported that ‘The Errant Knight’ would follow the story of the novels ‘The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Tales of Dunk and Egg’, starring Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and the young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg), 90 years before what happened in ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’.

Regarding the second season of his series ‘Dark Winds’, the writer (who acts as executive producer in this case) commented that the post-production process of the new six episodes was underway, which will be released in the summer of this year. .

And finally, as it could not be different, Martin was referring to the second season of ‘The House of the Dragon’whose scripts were finished months ago and is already in full filming; and his new novel ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’, ‘Winds of Winter’.

The second season of ‘The House of the Dragon’ began filming on April 11 and will continue in London and Wales. The scripts for the 8 episodes were finished months ago, before the strike started. After four or five drafts of each chapter, there will be no more corrections. The writers have done their job, the rest is in the hands of the directors, cast and crew… And of course the dragons,” wrote Martin.

“Some, I fear, maybe you have had an anxiety attack thinking that this strike affects ‘The Winds of Winter’. You can be calm” he went on to say. “The strike has nothing to do with novels, short stories or any other kind of prose fiction. I have projects moving forward in these areas. ‘Winds’ continues to be my number 1 priority.”
