The Guardians of the Galaxy team first appeared in the 1969 comic book series Marvel super heroes Issue 18 by designer Gene Kohl, script by Arnold Drake.
But there was no Star Lord, Groot or Rocket Raccoon back then. Indeed, the group then consisted of Vance Astro, Martinex, T’naga, Charlie-27, as well as the only character whose name is known to us today, Yondu.
The story takes place in an alternate reality of the future in the 31st century, in which the heroes fight the Baduns, reptilians who are planning to conquer the solar system. They will eventually defeat these invaders with the help of other superheroes like Captain America or The Thing who have met them during their various journeys through time.
The second team we know today was born much later in 2008 and then consisted of nine members, including Star-Lord, Gamora, Thor and Nebula.
Six years later, only this group of superheroes would appear on the big screen during Phase II of the Marvel Cinematic Universe directed by James Gunn.
In terms of casting, it is Chris Pratt who will play the leader of the army, an actor we have already seen in several feature films such as The Strategist, Zero Dark Thirty or Her.
Alongside him is Zoe Saldana, an SF icon thanks to her role as Neytiri in James Cameron’s Avatar. The cast also features Vin Diesel as Groot (vocals), Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, and Dave Bautista as the muscular Drax.
