The conversations are between former army major Ailton Barros and Colonel Elcio Franco, Bolsonaro’s former number 2
New audio shows former Army Major Ailton Barros and Colonel Elcio Franco, executive secretary of the Ministry of Health in the Pazuello administration, discussed the possibilities of a coup, shortly after Jair Bolsonaro (PL) lost the elections against Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The scheme called for the mobilization of 1,500 soldiers.
The material was revealed by Cnn, this Monday 9. According to the channel, the messages are part of the investigations by the Federal Police against Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid. He was also Bolsonaro’s assistant, and is being investigated in the scheme of fraud in the data of the vaccination card against covid-19, in addition to the case of Saudi jewels, seized at the Guarulhos airport.
Franco, considered the former number 2 of the Ministry of Health and councilor of the Civil House, would be at the center of the coup plot. He knew about the case and suggested mobilizing 1,500 army men to accomplish the feat. In a conversation with former Major Ailton, he revealed then-army commander Freire Gomes’ fears of being held responsible for a possible coup attempt.
Both were also considering supplanting Gomes, using the Army’s Special Operations Battalion. In an excerpt, Colonel Franco speaks to Ailton: “Look, I understood the following: it is Virgílio [comandante de um batalhão do Exército]. This bullshit will keep happening.”
Then he begins to talk about how the Army commander could defend himself if he were discovered.
«The Freire [Gomes] he will not. You wouldn’t expect him to take the lead in this matter, but he can’t stop taking the order. He’ll say, die standing together, because he’s proving it. He’s afraid of the consequences, man. Fear of consequences is what? Did he inflate? What was your advice? He’s going for the worst case scenario. And what, what is the worst case scenario?”.
Elcio says: “Ah, everything went wrong, the president has been arrested and is being asked to answer. I said oh me all the time [ininteligível] against the president, well, I said no, I shouldn’t do it, that I shouldn’t do it, that I shouldn’t just do it. Go to the Nuremberg Tribunal that way. After he gave me the written order, I, the Force Commander, had to comply. That’s his defense, you know? So honestly, that’s how it’s meant to be seen,” he says.

In another part of the conversation, Ailton tells Franco: “[É preciso convencer] General Pimentel. This high command of m… who does not want to be the p…, it is necessary to convince the commander of the Goiânia special operations brigade to arrest Alexandre de Moraes. We will organise, develop, educate and equip 1,500 men.”
