Japan’s youngest billionaire on Forbes list; know who you are

Since going public on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in June 2022, the brokerage has seen an approximately 300% increase in its stock.

the Japanese Shunsaku Sagami, 32, is a billionaire and, therefore, is already on the Forbes list. He is the 39th name of Japan and also the youngest of all. On the last day of April (30), market estimates indicated that Sagami had a net worth of just over $1 billion.

The fortune comes from his stake in the company he founded, M&A Research Institute Holdings, a brokerage firm specializing in mergers and acquisitions of small and medium-sized companies.

He owns 73% of the company’s shares, and since his assets are closely tied to the performance of these shares, when they go through a period of depreciation, his fortune also declines greatly.

In the past five trading sessions, shares of M&A Research fell 5.88% on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, leading to a decline in Sagami’s fortune, which temporarily removed him from the shortlist of billionaires.

The young entrepreneur lives a period of “enter and exit” of the ranking, but market expectations, according to Forbes, are that the company has room to consolidate itself in the market, which will soon restore Sagami’s billionaire status.

The valuation is no coincidence: Since going public in June of last year, the brokerage has already had a significant increase of about 300% in the value of its shares.

M&A Research Institute Holdings uses artificial intelligence to identify and match potential buyers with companies that are still profitable but experiencing succession issues. It is common for companies to go out of business because they have elderly people at the helm, with no perspective on who will replace them.

The richest Japanese on the list is Tadashi Yanai74, chairman of Fast Retailing, the parent company of Uniqlo, valued at $34.8 billion.
