Gilmar Mendes criticizes Lava-Jato and Sergio Moro: “Curitiba has generated Bolsonaro and has the germ of fascism”

The minister attacked the modalities of Lula’s trial during an interview with Roda Viva

Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) criticized the Lava-Jato operation and Sergio Moro during an interview with the Roda Viva program, on TV Cultura, this Monday 8. According to the minister, the judge, at the time , Moro has taken a position in favor of the extreme right in the judgment of the current president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

Gilmar Mendes was questioned by journalist João Almeida Moreira about Lava-Jato. He asked if the minister regretted not allowing Lula to assume the post of civil housing minister at that time. Mendes said he doesn’t regret it and explained that, at the time, he was sure there was an abuse of purpose in the appointment.

“If the former president, now president, was appointed to the Civil House, why didn’t he take the oath? Why did you hide? If there has been a problem, or an arrest warrant has arrived, it shows that he has already been appointed minister. Why was he hidden? All of this was in a fog and confusion,” she explained.

Subsequently, the minister spoke about Lava-Jato and was direct that the operation was linked to the election of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in 2018.

“Curitiba gave birth to Bolsonaro. Curitiba has the germ of fascism. Including all the practices they develop. Clandestine and atypical investigations. You don’t need to say another word. It is no coincidence that prosecutors say, due to lack of culture, that they have applied the Russian code of procedure,” he attacked.

Gilmar Mendes also said that the allegations against Lula were combined between the prosecution and current Senator Sergio Moro, which is considered serious. “Moro leaks Palocci’s accusation between the first and second rounds of 2018. He then participates in the trial. He takes a stand in favor of the far right ”.

In the Roda Viva stand, the interviewers Isadora Peron, from Valor Econômico, Felipe Recondo, from the Jota site, João Almeida Moreira, Portuguese journalist correspondent for Diário de Notícias, Eloisa Machado de Almeida, professor at the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) and doctor of Jurisprudence, and Ricardo Brito, of the Reuters Agency.
