On Victory Day, Putin says the West is at war with Russia

Western elites sow “Russophobia” around the world, according to the country’s president.

Victory Day is the most important holiday in Russia. The date celebrates the victory of Soviet troops against Nazi Germany in 1945, marking the end of World War II.

Compared to other years, Victory Day was celebrated this Monday (08) in a more streamlined way. Speech of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putinit had a less aggressive tone, was shorter than last year and the traditional military parade in Moscow’s Red Square was attended by fewer soldiers.

Putin stated that a “real war” is leading the West against Russia and that the world is at a tipping point again, in reference to the time when the Soviet Union held back the German army. The Russian president also claimed that Western globalist elites are sowing “Russophobia”.

“Today civilization is again at a decisive turning point. A real war has been unleashed against our motherland. We reject international terrorism”he has declared.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, Putin said that the people of this country have become “hostage to a coup” and the ambitions of the West.

Putin said he was “praying” by Russian forces in Ukraine. “The whole country has come together to support our heroes. Everyone is ready to help, praying for you”he said. The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenkoa traditional ally of Russia, he was the only foreign leader to attend the parade.

In the same speech last year, the Russian leader compared the performance of his soldiers in Ukraine to that of Soviet troops. In the following months of 2022, however, Moscow began to face a labor shortage. In a televised speech in September, Putin announced the call-up of 300,000 reservists and people who had never served in the military.
