Dead Poets Circle, released in theaters in 1990, is one of Ethan Hawke’s first roles. An important experience for an actor who, even at the age of 20, did not have the privilege of answering to the great Robin Williams. A few years ago Graham Norton Show SetHawke shared a funny and touching anecdote about their collaboration.
“Robin was an incredibly funny and relaxed person. He was very inventive and constantly improvising. The more the team laughed, the more he played.”said Ethan Hawke. “But I really wanted to be a serious actor. I wanted to get into my character, so I didn’t laugh at his jokes.”
“The funnier it was, the more smoke came out of my ears. He actually laughed at me about it and I thought he hated me.”Ethan Hawke continued with a smile. And the actor ends with an anecdote that proves how much of a blessing Robin Williams was.
“After the movie came out, Robin’s agent called me. He asked me if I wanted him to represent me because Robin told him I was going to be somebody one day.”Hoke recalls. “Robin was a charming man.” And also very observant, Ethan Hawke effectively became “someone” in a cinematic landscape.
Ethan Hawke will be on the Croisette at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. The American actress appears in Pedro Almodovar’s short film Strange Way of Life, in which she responds to Pedro Pascal. The film is presented without competition.
