We already have a release date, trailer and first image of this ambitious project by the Pastor brothers, which shows us a devastated Barcelona.
After the success of ‘A ciegas’ (‘Bird Box’) with Sandra Bullock among Netflix movies, its Spanish version arrives this summer: ‘Bird Box Barcelona’ plunges us back into the terrifying post-apocalyptic world created on paper by Josh Malermanbut now with Mario Casas as the protagonist and with the Catalan capital as the main scene of the tragedy.
The film is directed by the brothers Àlex and David Pastor, who know their thing about post-apocalyptic thrillers after ‘The Last Days’ (also with a devastated Barcelona) and have some experience on Netflix after ‘Home’ (also starring Mario Casas). . Now, they raise the bar with an ambitious project that is part of the universe started by Susanne Bier’s 2018 film, which remains one of the most watched Netflix movies in its history.
‘Bird Box Barcelona’ shows us the consequences of an event as mysterious as it is devastating: an inexplicable force takes over the streets of Barcelona and forces those who look at it to take their own lives. Sebastian and his little daughter Anna will have to fight for their survival, understanding that the only way to get out alive is to live blindly.. However, things will get complicated when they form an alliance with other survivors and fight their way to a seemingly safe haven.
This is how he looks first teaser trailer for ‘Bird Box Barcelona’, which opens on July 14:
The cast of ‘Bird Box Barcelona’ is led by Mario Casas, and is completed by Georgina Campbell, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Diego Calva, Patrick Criado, Lola Dueñas, Gonzalo de Castro, Michelle Jenner and Leonardo Sbaragliaamong others.
The film is produced by Ainsley Davies, Brian Williams, Dylan Clark, Chris Morgan, Núria Valls, Adrián Guerra, Josh Malerman and Ryan Lewis. It is also run by the production company Nostromo Pictures, which has international hit titles in its catalog such as ‘Buried’ (2010), directed by Rodrigo Cortés and starring Ryan Reynolds, and the Spanish hits ‘Palm trees in the snow’ (also with Mario Casas) and ‘The Baztán Trilogy’ by Fernando González Molina. On Netflix they are also responsible for the adolescent romantic saga started by ‘Through my window’ and which will continue this summer with the sequel ‘Through the sea’.
What we don’t know at the moment is how ‘Bird Box Barcelona’ will connect with ‘Blindly’, the original film starring Sandra Bullock. Will there be connections as a spin-off? Or is this simply an expansion of his universe? Can we expect more movies, and perhaps series, that tell us about the consequences of this mysterious force around the world? For now, we stay at home, in Barcelona, waiting to see how the characters fight for their survival in a world that is no longer the one they knew.
