Through the Maximum Penalty operation, the Goiás prosecutor investigated a plan to manipulate football matches. Dissatisfied with allegations of his involvement in the scandal, Palmeiras midfielder Gabriel Menino promises to file a criminal complaint.
The center of the argument is a move that occurred in the tie between Palmeiras and Vasco, for the second round of the Brazilian championship, in Maracanã. At the beginning of the second half, after receiving a pass from Zé Rafael in midfield, Menino tries a shot on the right, but misses the pass and the ball goes over the touchline.
“I have never been involved in sports betting. In my personal and professional life, I care about ethics, fairness and the principles of legality. I am an employee of a large institution, with millions of fans, and I have great respect for that I know my duties and what I represent for all these people”, says a text published by Menino on his social networks.

In addition to the statement, the Palmeiras midfielder has published in his profiles an offer for the decision of the Paulista championship, against Água Santa. At Allianz Parque, in a similar move, Gabriel Menino receives a pass early in the game and hits the shot to the right.
“I inform you that my legal staff will present, as soon as possible, a criminal complaint against the person responsible for having insinuated my participation in a sports betting program, an issue widely publicized by the media in recent days, in an offer at the start of the second half of the match against Vasco da Gama”, reads the text.
The Public Prosecutor of Goiás reported 16 people for fraud in 13 football matches: eight from the Série A of the 2022 Brazilian championship, one from the 2022 Série B and four from the state championships held in 2023. The justice accepted and the defendants became defendants.

“Due to the spread on social media of insinuations involving my name, associating my person with illegal attitudes in sport, I clarify that:
1) I have never been involved in sports betting incidents. In my personal and professional life, I care about ethics, loyalty and the rule of law. I am an employee of a large institution, with millions of fans, and I respect that relationship very much. I know my duties and what I stand for for all these people.
2) Having said this, I inform you that my legal staff will present, as soon as possible, a criminal complaint against the person responsible for insinuating my participation in a sports betting program, an issue widely publicized by the media in recent days, in an offer to the start of the second half of the match against Vasco da Gama (04/23). I will also take the necessary measures to ensure that those who use the Internet continue to spread false information. The Internet can’t be land without law!”
