Paper Excellence founder Jackson Wijaya told Brazilian governors in New York on Wednesday that the company plans to invest $4 billion in a new factory in Brazil.
“We plan to invest $4 billion in a new project in Brazil for 2.5 million tons of pulp,” he said during the meeting, according to a Paper Excellence news release.
The initiative is expected to generate about 2,500 direct jobs, while where to host the investment is still under consideration, according to Paper Excellence.
The meeting was attended by the Governors Cláudio Castro, of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Leite, of Rio Grande do Sul, Helder Barbalho, of Pará, Wilson Lima, of Amazonas, Renato Casagrande, of Espírito Santo, and Mauro Mendes, of Mato Grosso .
Also present were federal deputy Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB), speaker of a working group on tax reform in the Chamber of Deputies, and Claudio Cotrim, president of Paper Excellence in Brazil.
In recent years, the company has fought a dispute with J&F in court over its acquisition of Eldorado Celulose.
Paper Excellence also operates in Canada, the United States and France.
