John Boyega and Jamie Foxx complete the cast of a film that its director also compares to ‘Stuck in Time’ and ‘It Follows’
The next Netflix movie ‘Tyrone’s Clone’ Will Be Like Nothing You’ve Seen Before and, at the same time, the list of films that have served as a reference to its director is one of the longest we can remember.
The rising star of ‘The Marvels’ Teyonah Parristhe protagonist of the last Star Wars trilogy john boyega and Quentin Tarantino’s Django himself, Jamie Foxxare the protagonists of what promises to be the most psychedelic film Netflix will release in 2023. According to the official synopsis of ‘Tyrone’s Clone’: “A series of horrifying events pushes an unlikely trio on the trail of a nefarious government experiment in this mischief pulp full of mystery.”
Its scriptwriter and director, the rookie juel taylordefines to Empire his film as a mix between ‘They are alive’ by John Carpenter, ‘It Follows’, ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ and ‘Stuck in Time’, Bill Murray’s great time loop film, and tries to explain his film with a question :”What would happen if ‘The Truman Show’ drank an entire bottle of vodka?“
Taylor continues: “My writing partner [Tony Rettenmaier] and I always joked about who they would be the most inadequate detectives, the worst possible candidates to be involved in a conspiracy.” Well, a drug dealer, a sex worker and a pimp seems to be the ultimate (wrong) choice.
Playing on the grainy look of the film, ‘Tyrone’s Clone’ promises to be a strange mix between the familiar and the outlandish, featuring a conspiracy that will make us paranoid when turning off the screen. “I wanted the world of the film to be this weird hermetically sealed bubble that feels like it’s lost in time,” Taylor explains.
Teyonah Parrisits lead, will join Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel this year as superheroine Monica Rambeau in ‘The Marvels’his first appearance in a Marvel UCM movie after having participated in the ‘Scarlet Witch and Vision’ series on Disney +.
Jamie Foxx will also make his directing debut in 2023 with ‘All-Star Weekend’a comedy about the world of basketball in which he will share a cast with Jeremy Piven, Benicio del Toro, Eva Longoria and Gerard Butler.
‘The Tyrone Clone’ will premiere on Netflix on July 21, 2023.
