Co-written between Shonda Rhimes and Julia Quinn, it is the perfect gift for fans of the Netflix series and those who want to complete their ‘The Bridgertons’ book collection.
Coming from the ‘Bridgertons’ saga, it is not surprising that the prequel ‘Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’ has been a hit among Netflix series. Unlike its predecessors, this new series is not based on an already published Julia Quinn novel, because it was not part of the original literary saga, but that is about to change: the novel ‘La Reina Carlota’ goes on sale on May 16 to tell us many more details about the monarchical romance of the season.
Although we know that the love story of Queen Charlotte and King George was more tragic in real life than in the spin-off of ‘The Bridgertons’, we have fallen in love with the version created by Shonda Rhimes and that now we can read about paper. Whether you keep your collection of ‘The Bridgertons’ books like gold in cloth or are a newcomer to this world of long dresses and intense gazes, This book is the perfect companion if you’ve just finished all six episodes of the Netflix miniseries:
This book is cosigned between Rhimes (producer of ‘The Bridgertons’ and creator of ‘Queen Charlotte’) and Julia Quinn (author of the ‘The Bridgertons’ novels), and inspired by the series (and not the other way around, as it would be usual). The synopsis describes her as “a powerful, romantic novel about the epic love story between Queen Charlotte and King George III, and how society changed”.
Indeed, as we see in the series, German princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz arrives in London in September 1761, where that same day she married the King of England. However, far from a fairy tale story, what Charlotte finds in that immense palace is solitude and the shadows of a secret that could end the British monarchy. Even so, love blossoms despite the obstacles, and the queen understands her true power to reshape the society of the time and make it more inclusive in what has been dubbed ‘The Great Experiment’.
If you have seen the series, all this already sounds familiar to you. And so it will also be in the Quinn and Rhimes novel, but with many more details and plots that have not had a place on the small screen. In addition, as in the series, there will also be space for Lady Danbury and Violet Bridgerton, two characters that have also been part of the production (in their past and present versions within the timeline of ‘The Bridgertons’). And let’s not forget Brimsley, the Queen’s footman, and her brilliant romance (although the ending of ‘Queen Charlotte’s gay love story was cut, much to our chagrin).
All six episodes of ‘Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’ are now available on Netflix.
