The total investment in the modernization of the industrial plant is estimated at R$ 2.765 billion

CMPC plans to complete the BioCMPC project this year, which aims to increase production by 18% at the Guaíba industrial plant, in the Porto Alegre metropolitan region, including the acquisition of the largest pasta washing press in the world, weighing more than 300 tons. The acquisition of the equipment will allow the company to improve the handling of the cellulose pulp, as well as reduce the use of chemicals in the bleaching of the raw material.

The total investment for the modernization of the industrial plant is estimated at R$ 2.765 billion and will increase the company’s production at the plant from 2 million tons of cellulose to 2.36 million. CMPC plans to improve not only its production, but also its environmental performance, with the expansion of renewable energy generation, optimization of water use, reduction of gas emissions, among others.

The company announced in a statement that it has been working to increase its forest base and, in this sense, has launched the RS+Renda program, which establishes partnerships with rural producers to increase the volume of plantations of eucalyptus, the raw material used in plant industry. Because the CMPC has foreign capital, it cannot acquire rural land in Brazil, but the forest program was launched early last year with the goal of reaching 15,000 hectares among rural producers in 71 cities in Rio Grande do Sul.

BioCMPC project

The CMPC Group started work on the Guaíba plant in December 2021, with a project that includes modernization and new measures for environmental control and management. According to Maurício Harger, the BRL 2.75 billion investment is the largest in terms of sustainability ever made in the state.

In addition to improving the company’s environmental performance by expanding renewable energy generation, optimizing water use and reducing gas emissions, the project also aims to generate jobs for the community during and after completion of the works .
