People over 50 will be able to get vaccinated against the flu starting this Monday in Porto Alegre

To ensure protection against influenza viruses (influenza) for the largest number of people, the Municipal Health Department (SMS) expands the public able to receive the dose for people aged 50 and over this Monday 15 . , which complies with the Ministry of Health’s determination to expand the public capable of being immunized to the whole population, aims to avoid crowding and ensure better service to the population.




This group adds to the priority groups that have been vaccinated since the start of the campaign on April 10 (elderly people, teachers, children from six months, security and public transport workers, pregnant women, mothers, Indigenous people, health workers, people with permanent disabilities and comorbidities).

In Porto Alegre, SMS will keep the doses in all vaccination rooms, according to the opening hours of each location. “To avoid overcrowding at the vaccination sites, the Municipal Health Department has chosen to stagger the age groups throughout the week,” underlines the owner of the SMS, César Sulzbach.

The downsizing provides for the daily expansion of the age groups:

  • Monday 15th – people aged 50 and over
  • Tuesday 16 – People aged 40 and over
  • Wednesday 17 – People aged 30 and over
  • Thursday 18 – People aged 20 and over
  • Friday – All persons from six months of age
  • As of this Friday (12), 190,954 doses of the flu vaccine have been administered in the city, corresponding to a coverage of 26.6% of the target achieved so far.
