After The Warren Files (Conjuring Saga), is The Archives of Father Gabriel Amort the new treasure trove of horror cinema?

While Julius Avery’s The Vatican Exorcist hits our darkrooms this Wednesday, May 10, a sequel has already been announced. If nothing is known about the plot, the site bloody disgusting announces that Russell Crowe and Daniel Zovato will reprise their roles.

Based on the true archives of the Vatican’s chief exorcist, Father Gabriel Amort, the chilling feature film follows Father Amort (Russell Crowe) as he investigates the terrifying discovery of a possessed young boy. His investigation leads to an age-old conspiracy that the Vatican has tried desperately to forget.

Not recommended for children under 12, the film is based on the books by Father Gabriel Amort.The exorcist tells him“(1992) and”New Tales of the Exorcist” (1993). The latter has published more than twenty books (alone or with others), 7 of which have been translated into French. With more than 70,000 exorcisms to his credit, Father Amort is one of the most famous exorcists in the world.

Thus, Screen Gems could launch a new horror franchise inspired by the many stories of an Italian priest to whom William Friedkin even dedicated a documentary called The Devil and Father Amorth.

With a budget of 18 million dollars, The Exorcist of the Vatican It has already collected more than 66 million dollars worldwide. If we are still far from the figures of the franchise films seductive (The first feature film grossed $320 million worldwide), it still makes sense that the producers would be quick to launch a second opus.
