Film-winner of the Berlin Film Festival “Land of Alcarras” will be shown in Russia

A real gift from KION for all fans of non-trivial festival cinema! Starting May 20, the Laureate of the 72nd Berlinale film “Land of Alcarras” by Spanish director Carla Simon will be available to the online cinema subscribers. The main leitmotif of the experimental autobiographical acute social drama, in which non-professional actors played the main roles, is the fragility of tomorrow.

The director of the project, Carla Simon, lost her parents at a young age and went to be raised by relatives in the very Spanish village of Alcarraz. The new picture is based on her memories of those times and the people around her. It is noteworthy that among the sources of inspiration for Simon was Anton Chekhov’s play “The Cherry Orchard”. The tape shows an anti-capitalist approach to work and criticizes the system that is killing the family business.

At last year’s Berlin Film Festival, “Land of Alcarras” was awarded the main prize. For director Simon, this is the second full-length work. Her autobiographical debut film “Summer 1993”, released in 2017, was also shown for the first time at the Berlinale. The tape received prizes for the best first feature film and the Grand Prix of the “Generation Kplus” section. By the way, with both paintings, Simon also became the winner of the national Goya Award.

The story of the casting in the “Land of Alcarras” is also interesting, which lasted about a year. The author specially selected real farmers from this village for the roles, whose acting game was highly appreciated by film critics. The film starred: Josep Abad, Jordi Pujol Dolset, Anna Otin, Albert Bosch and Xenia Roset.
