An agreement between 20th Century Studios, controlled by Disney, and HBO will allow the arrival of Avatar: The Way of Water in two streams in the same day: from June 7 it will be possible to see the sequel on Disney + and Max (new HBO Max after the merger with Discovery).
Directed by James Cameron, Avatar: The Way of Water (OR Avatars 2) made it the fifth highest-grossing of all time, surpassing the film Avengers: Infinity War in January of this year. The feature film reached $2.054 billion raised globally, leaving it for third place avengers (US$2.052 billion) back.
Outside the United States, it grossed $1.5 billion, making it the fourth-biggest film in history at the international box office. The production was the sixth to surpass $2 billion globally, in its sixth week of release.
As soon as avatars ($2.92 billion), Avengers: Finale ($2.79 billion), Titanic ($2.19 billion) and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens ($2.07 billion) are up front Avatars 2 topping the list of highest grossing all-time.
Avatar: The Way of Water he also earned more than Spider-Man: Never go home ($1.92 billion), becoming the highest-grossing film of the pandemic era.
Starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Kate Winslet, Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver, the sequel received rave reviews from critics, being nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
