Grey’s Anatomy on TF1: Why did Ellen Pompeo (Meredith) leave the series?

It’s time to say goodbye to Meredith Gray. Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 Episode 7, which airs this Wednesday, May 17 at 9:10pm on TF1, is indeed a scene of the famous doctor saying goodbye to his colleagues at Gray Sloan’s memorial.

After 19 years of good and loyal service, Ellen Pompeo, who lent her qualities to the character of Meredith Gray for more than 400 episodes, has decided to hang up her blues and leave the medical series, much to the dismay of fans.

If this announcement of departure managed to surprise more than one, it has still been a few years since the actor reduced his presence on the screen to start new projects. We still remember the 17th season where the character spent most of the episodes in a hospital bed due to Covid.

Last August, Ellen Pompeo announced that her presence in the 19th season of Grey’s Anatomy would be reduced to only 8 episodes in order to devote herself to new projects.

The actor will indeed star and executive produce a miniseries for the Hulu streaming platform inspired by the horrific incident. Viewers will follow the story of an American couple who adopt what they believe is a dwarf girl.

But as they begin to raise her alongside their three biological children, they grow increasingly concerned that their adopted daughter is not what she claims to be.

Last November, the American actress posted a photo on Instagram and thanked her fans for their support over the years. “I am forever grateful and humbled by the love and support you have shown me, Meredith Gray, and the show for 19 seasons! None of this would be possible without the best fans in the world.“- he wrote.

So Ellen Pompeo (almost) says goodbye in episode 7, titled “Party Drink” (“I followed the sun” in English). Because yes, the actress won’t be closing the door on Grey’s Anatomy after all.

In addition to serving as an executive producer, he will continue to narrate episodes and will also return for the Season 19 finale, which airs Thursday, May 18 on ABC. Ellen Pompeo also hasn’t ruled out a return to Grey’s Anatomy in future episodes, as she wrote in an Instagram post:You know the show must go on and I will definitely be back to visit you.”

Like Jesse Williams, Dr. Jackson Avery’s translator, who has appeared on the series several times since his departure at the end of season 17, Ellen Pompeo is set to return and greet her former colleagues from Gray Sloan.
