20th Century Studios has released the national trailer for “Resistance” (The Creator), new sci-fi film by Gareth Edwards, director of “Godzilla” (2014) and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” (2016). Packed with visual effects, the preview reveals a post-apocalyptic action thriller about a future affected by a war between humans and artificial intelligence (AI).
The film revolves around Joshua, an elite military agent recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of an advanced artificial intelligence who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end war. … and to humanity itself. Joshua and his team embark on a journey behind enemy lines, deep into AI-occupied territory. But during the mission, he ends up discovering that the world-destroying weapon he’s been ordered to eliminate is actually an AI in the shape of a child.
The film stars John David Washington (“Tenet”) and also stars Ken Watanabe (“Inception”), Sturgill Simpson (“Dog”), Allison Janney (Oscar winner for “I, Tonya”) and little Madeleine Yuna Voyles.
The screenplay was written by Edwards and Chris Weitz (also of “Rogue One”), from a story created by Edwards. And the premiere is scheduled for September 28 in Brazil, one day before the US release.
