Eddie Murphy could bring back this mythical Steve Martin character in a reboot of ‘The Pink Panther’

Eddie Murphy could bring back one of the funniest police inspectors in French security: Inspector Clouseau, as recently reported Variety

MGM prepares a reboot from ‘The Pink Panther‘ and Murphy seems to be among the top favorites to star in it. Jeff Fowler, director of ‘Sonic: the movie’, will be in charge of the project. Besides, the script will be carried out by Chris Bremmer.

Julie Andrews, Larry Mirisch, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will serve as story producers.

The franchise originated in 1963, with Peter Sellers playing Inspector Jacques Clouseau. Sellers would play his role up to 4 more times, in the years 1964 (‘The New Case of Inspector Clouseau’), 1975 (‘The Return of the Pink Panther’), 1976 (‘The Pink Panther Strikes Again’) and 1978 (‘Revenge of the Pink Panther’). After him, other interpreters would give life to the detective: Alan Arkin, Roger Moore and Steve Martin, specifically.

In the last of the ‘Pink Panther’ movies (released in 2006), we saw Martin playing Clouseau. Throughout the tape, we continued the investigation of a murder and the search for the valuable diamond that shares its name with the tape. The apparently clumsy and careless detective turned out to have a unique intuition that led him to solve the case, against all odds.

Accompanying Martin: the singer Beyoncé, Kevin Kline, Jean Reno, Emily Mortimer, Henry Czerny, Jason Statham, and Clive Owen.

In addition to all the movies about the inspector, there have also been books, video games and an animated series about the elegant and particular pink feline.

Murphy, for his part, is an experienced actor in the field of comedy.. Throughout his extensive career, there have been many occasions in which we have seen him delve into films of this genre. ‘The Haunted Mansion’, a family horror comedy that will soon premiere its reboot, is one of them. We have also been able to see him in the different films of ‘super detective in hollywood‘; giving voice to Donkey in the universe of ‘Shrek‘, or starring in the tapes of ‘Dr Dolittle‘.

Steve Martin prepares to premiere the third season of ‘Only Murders in the Building‘, the series in which he stars alongside Martin Short and Selena Gomez. In this new batch of episodes, she has joined the main cast Meryl Streep.

Since its premiere, the series has been praised by the public and fans are looking forward to the new episodes. Despite being produced by Hulu, in Spain it is available on streaming via Disney+.
