Director Gareth Edwards and Actor John David Washington Release New Sci-Fi Film Against AI Tyranny

Today, AI has become one of the hottest topics of conversation. Artificial Intelligence makes it easier to create images, digitally resurrect or rejuvenate actors and actresses and even threatens to write their own scripts (provoking in part the current Hollywood writers’ strike). However, in the upcoming 20th Century Studios film, ‘The Creator,’ AI takes on its most dangerous form: a technology fully capable of wiping humanity off the face of the Earth.

The first trailer opens in a vast area surrounded by water and futuristic-like buildings. A little boy asks the character of john david washington (‘Tenet’), Joshua, about heaven and if Joshua will ever go there. His response, “No. To go to heaven you have to be a good person“. As the trailer continues, as Aerosmith’s ‘Dream On’ plays and we see footage of explosions and gunfire, it is shown that humanity is at war against an Artificial Intelligence that has rebelled against us.

‘The Creator’ will largely focus on Joshua, a former special forces agent who is grieving after his wife (Gemma Chan) went missing. In the midst of his grief, Joshua is recruited to track down the “Creator”, the elusive mind behind the advanced AI. But the Creator not only created the technology to wage war, but also built the weapon that can end it all… And he has the appearance of the little boy we saw at the beginning of the trailer.

The film has been written, directed and produced by Gareth Edwards, responsible for the first film of the reboot of ‘Godzilla’ and ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’, the film in which the character who stars in what for many is the best Star Wars series on Disney+, ‘Andor’, was introduced. Along with Washington and Chan, the film stars Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, Allison Janney and newcomer Madeleine Yuna Voyles.

The release of ‘The Creator’ marks another AI-focused project, more fashionable than ever after the Hollywood writers’ strike and the release of ‘Mrs. Davis’ on HBO Max Spain, the new series from the creator of ‘Lost’ in which a nun faces an Artificial Intelligence that rules the world through a mobile app.

‘The Creator’ opens in theaters on September 29th.
