Since the last meeting, Corinthians and Flamengo have changed five coaches

Corinthians and Flamengo face off for the seventh round of the Brazilian championship. The teams last met for the tournament at the end of 2022. The teams have since added five coaching changes.

Following the controversial departure of Vítor Pereira, Timão decided to hire Lázaro as coach. However, early elimination in the Campeonato Paulista and obstacles in the Brasileirão and Libertadores undermined the work of Zé Maria’s son, who ended up being replaced by Cuca.

Less than a week after the new commander arrived, he asked to leave due to the negative repercussions of his hiring. Thus, the board chose an old acquaintance, Vanderlei Luxemburgo, to recover Corinthians, which has not yet happened, with the team remaining winless with him in the lead.

Flamengo, in turn, even after winning the Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil, chose Vítor Pereira as the club’s manager instead of Dorival Júnior. However, the Portuguese had a short spell, accumulating failures, with runners-up finishes in the Brazilian Super Cup, Recopa Sul-Americana and Campeonato Carioca, as well as a disappointing Club World Cup campaign.

Now the Rubro-Negro is commanded by coach Jorge Sampaoli. However, the Argentine has not yet made the team mesh in the current season.

This Sunday, the teams face off at 16:00 (Brasilia time), at the Maracanã. Flamengo are aiming for a third consecutive league win to join leaders Brasileirão. Corinthians are already projecting a positive result to escape the relegation zone.
