China fails Micron products in safety review and bans some purchases

China’s cyberspace regulator said Sunday that products made by US memory chip maker Micron Technology have failed its security review and would prevent infrastructure makers from buying the company’s products.

“The review found that Micron’s products pose serious network security risks, which in turn pose significant security risks to China’s critical information infrastructure supply chain, affecting the country’s national security,” it said. the Administration of China Cyberspace Commission (CAC) said in a statement. .

Micron said it has received notice from the CAC of the completion of its review of the company’s products and “looks forward to continuing to engage in discussions with Chinese authorities.”

CAC did not provide details of the identified risks or affected Micron products.

The US and Chinese governments are at loggerheads over chip technology. Washington imposed a series of export controls on chip-making technology in China and moved to prevent Micron rival Yangtze Memory Technologies from buying some American components.
