Marvel: Loki Season 2 Without Jonathan Majors as Kang? The rumor is confirmed

SPOILER ALERT! This article shows key elements of Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 5, including Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania. If you haven’t seen the movie and don’t want to be spoiled, don’t read.

Last week during Disney’s upfronts — the industry event where channels and platforms reveal their upcoming content to the US press — Marvel Studios showed off a trailer for Loki Season 2. Everyone was waiting to see if Jonathan Majors would make an appearance in this trailer…and the answer is no!

Neither the actor nor the character he plays, Kang, captures these first images that the rest of the world is waiting to discover. Even though he is the central super villain of the series and even of Phase 5 of the MCU!

Indeed, Majors’ character was announced as the main villain of Loki Season 2 in the post-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, featuring Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Mobius (Owen Wilson) in the audience. A show featuring Kang, a variant of Victor Timely.

After the theatrical release of Quantummania in February, Jonathan Majors was arrested in New York in late March on charges of strangulation, assault and harassment.

During a May 16 launch for press and advertisers, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige previewed several upcoming MCU series, including Secret Invasion, Echo, and Loki Season 2.

According to Axios reporter Tim Basinger, Kevin Feige has not mentioned Jonathan Majors or any of his characters on the show – whether Kang or Victor Timely.

The Loki season 2 trailer doesn’t mention Jonathan Majors, and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige hasn’t even mentioned that he’s in the show.

Disney has yet to release a Loki Season 2 trailer, but Kevin Feige took advantage of the event to announce its release date. The great return of the god of lies and evil is set for Friday, October 6. The series runs Wednesday through Friday.

How will Marvel deal with Jonathan Major in Loki Season 2?

Neither Marvel nor Kevin Feige have yet commented on Jonathan Majors’ arrest in March. While fan speculation has swirled as to whether or not the studio plans to recast Kang’s role, Deadline reported in April that Marvel had no discussions to replace the actor. It is likely that the studio will wait to see how the case develops on the legal side before making a decision.

After Loki Season 2 wrapped filming and announced a release date, it looks like Marvel doesn’t have any plans to change the series. It would cost as much money as possible and seems impossible for an October release.

It’s almost certain that the trailer that will be released to the general public will be the same one presented to the American press, and thus will not feature Jonathan Majors or his various incarnations.

After Loki, the actor’s next known appearance as Kang is slated for 2025’s Avengers: Kang Dynasty. For now, it looks like Marvel wants to keep Jonathan Majors as Kang. However, if Majors is found guilty of the charges against him, the studio could reconsider its plans.

Loki Season 2 premieres Friday, October 6 on Disney+.
