Act of protest for the flood with 14 dead in Emilia-Romagna

Environmental activists covered themselves in mud outside the Italian Senate in Rome in another act of civil disobedience to highlight the need to tackle the climate crisis.

The deed was carried out on Tuesday (23) by protesters from the Last Generation group, who used the mud to refer to the floods that killed 14 people in Emilia-Romagna last week. Experts attribute the phenomenon to the increased frequency of extreme events due to global warming.

“The floods in Emilia-Romagna were an announced disaster,” said a young woman with her bare breasts covered in mud. “We have brought the mud of politics into the palace of politics,” she added. The protesters were arrested by the police.

The Last Generation group has gained notoriety in Italy in recent months for graffiti spraying famous artworks and blocking streets to demand climate action. Last Sunday (21), activists of the organization threw a liquid coal into the Trevi Fountain, also in Rome.

The Last Generation is calling for more investment in renewable energy and the cancellation of new offshore oil and gas drilling projects. .
