Matt Damon admits he made “the dumbest decision in acting history” by turning down this huge role

Matt Damon regrets not accepting a role that would have netted him at least $290 million.

Matt Damon has always been open about missing out on starring in the ‘Avatar’ movies due to his commitment to the Jason Bourne franchise, but now that James Cameron’s films have grossed over $5.2 billion worldwide, being 2 of the top 3 grossing films of all time, the actor is more sorry than ever.

Entertainment Tonight reunited with Matt Damon and current ‘Avatar’ star Zoe Saldana (who plays Neytiri in the James Cameron films and Gamora in the recent ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’), taking advantage of the fact that the two are currently working on a project titled ‘Let’s Do Dinner’ for Stella Artois. During the conversation, Damon recalled turning down ‘Avatar’ for 10% of the film’s box office. “Dumbest thing an actor has ever done in acting history”. Damon was approached to play Corporal Jake Sully, a role that he ended up going to Sam Worthington.

“I’ve probably done like 50 movies. I’ve never been in a movie that grossed a billion dollarsDamon added. Damon’s highest-grossing film so far would be Ridley Scott’s ‘Mars (The Martian)’, with $654 million worldwide… Less than the Avatar films grossed separately in the US alone.

James Cameron, who is never shy about offering his opinion, said last year that Matt Damon had to get over the fantasy of his ‘Avatar’ paycheck. While promoting ‘Avatar 2: The Sense of Water’, the director said, ‘He’s punishing himself for this…’Matt, you’re one of the biggest movie stars in the world, get over it.‘”.

Participate in ‘Avatar’ would have put around 290 million dollars in the wallet of Matt Damon if we take into account only 10% of the first film. Small change.
