Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest 2023 announces its opening film, ‘Quest’, a fantasy story starring Goya winner Enric Auquer.
‘Quest’, Antonina Obrador’s debut film shot in Mallorca, will be in charge of inaugurating the thirteenth edition of Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest 2023 next July 23 at La Misericordia, Palma.
Filmed entirely in Mallorcan locations such as Felanitx, Portocolom, the island of Sa Dragonera or the Sierra de Tramuntana, ‘Quest’ is a film full of fantasy and mystery that promises to transform the island into a place lost in timewith a blanket of fog and silences broken by unknown presences.
Obrador, director of a collection of video clips from the legendary British electropop duo Erasure, thus makes her debut in the feature film with a disturbing story in which we will meet Lluc, a biologist scarred by the suicide of his wife who undertakes an investigation to catalog the flora from the place where she died: the uninhabited island of Quest. Once there, he will realize that a supernatural element permeates the environment, forcing Lluc to face the ghosts of the past in order to redeem the guilt he feels for the death of his wife.
‘Quest’ stars Enric Auquer, winner of the Goya for Best New Actor for his work in ‘Quien a hierro mata’ (Paco Plaza, 2019) and fundamental in ‘Vida perfecta’, the Leticia Dolera series for Movistar Plus+. Next to him will be the actress Laia Manzanares, whom we will soon see in ‘La desconocida’ (Pablo Maqueda, 2023).
The film, which also features the participation and music of Maria Arnal, has been produced by Nanouk Films and La Perifèrica produccions, making it the largest format Balearic fiction since ‘El ventre del mar’, by Agustí Villaronga. It has the participation of TV3 and IB3, the support of the ICEC and ICIB and the collaboration of the Mallorca Film Commission and the Felanitx City Council.
As in previous editions, Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest (AMFF) once again bets on a great Balearic production to inaugurate a festival that will take place until July 30 in Mallorca and will have an online edition until August 23 at Filmin.
The festival, created in 2012, has become a leading event in the industry by promoting independent productions and fostering film culture. Born as the first online film festival in our country, did so with the mission of making the best international films known to the public that could not find a place in theaters and, on the other hand, giving prestige to the Internet window. Today, Atlàntida is the most important hybrid festival in the world which, in its eleventh edition, exceeded 750,000 spectators at its double venue: one week in Mallorca and one month in Filmin.
