Will I be able to watch Netflix outside the home? And when to travel?

Netflix began applying, effective Tuesday (23rd), a surcharge to prevent password sharing in Brazil and in more than 100 countries. With this change, many questions have arisen on social media about how this new dynamic of the streaming platform will work.

Among the questions: Will I be able to use streaming outside the home? And when to travel? How will the stream know where I am? And so on. If you are also confused, don’t worry. OR prepared a guide to clarify the main doubts in this regard. Check below:

How Netflix’s new dynamic works

Now it goes like this: “The Netflix account is used by only one family,” the company explained. But that doesn’t literally mean that you’ll only be able to stream titles at home. In this new dynamic, everything will revolve around what appears as a “Netflix residence” in your account.

Yes, you can stream in other places or on the go. You can watch catalog titles normally on your portable devices, for example: mobile phones, tablets and laptops. There is also the possibility of accessing the service on TV, for example, in a hotel or boarding house.

If you have a second home or travel to the same location frequently, do the following: At your primary broadcast location, connect to the Internet and open the app at least once a month on a mobile phone or tablet. Do the same when in second position to continue watching without interruption.

The company uses information such as IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity to determine if a device connected to your account is part of your “Netflix home,” as advertised by the streaming service. “We don’t collect GPS data to try to find out the precise location of devices,” she added.

In this case, the streaming service will automatically determine one based on your IP address, device IDs, and account activity.

Later, you can change it using an Internet-connected TV, by following the steps outlined in this article. And if you don’t stream TV or don’t have a TV, you don’t need to set up a residence.
