Base jewel, Pedro “disappears” at Corinthians after his initial prestige with Luxemburgo

Striker Pedro, a jewel in Corinthians’ youth academy, has “disappeared” after his initial prestige under coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo. Of the team’s last five games, the athlete was unrelated to one and did not leave the bench in four others.

The last time Pedro was on the pitch was against Fortaleza, in Luxa’s second game for Corinthians. On the occasion, the boy even started on the left wing, but he didn’t play well and was replaced at half-time by the substitute Guilherme Biro.

Before that, on his debut in Luxembourg, Pedro had come on in the 12th minute of the second half against Independiente del Valle at the Neo Química Arena.

Aged to join the under-20 team, Pedro continues to train with the professional pack and is listed for matches. The youngster was cut off the bench against Atlético-MG, for the Copa do Brasil, but due to a muscle strain on goalkeeper Cássio in the warm-up, which made Luxa choose to insert Matheus Donelli at the last minute.

While Pedro goes through a period without appearing on the pitch, other youngsters have started to gain more minutes with Luxemburgo, such as Wesley and Felipe Agusuto. The coach has been giving the youngsters chances since he took charge of the team at the beginning of May.

In the season, Pedro has six matches, starting with two. Surrounded by high expectations, the striker is still looking for his first top-team goal. The club recently renewed the athlete’s contract until March 2026, with a redundancy penalty for clubs abroad of 120 million euros (R$660 million at current prices).
