The Little Mermaid: Where Did You See Jonah Hower-King Prince Eric Charming?

A live-action remake of the famous 1990 Disney classic, Rob Marshall’s The Little Mermaid, starring a young Holly Bailey in the title role. Alongside him we find big names like Melissa McCarthy in Ursula and Javier Bardem in King Triton, but also the lesser-known Jonah Hauer-King, who plays the irresistible Prince Eric.

Born to an American theater producer and therapist mother and a London restaurateur father, Jonah enrolled after high school at St. John’s College, Cambridge, where he earned a degree in theology. At the same time, and with a passion for comedy, he participated in various plays and went through several castings for the big and small screen.

After appearing in four short films, Jonah Hauer-King plays Danny Huston’s son in the drama The Last Photograph (2017), directed by the latter. After this promising first effort, the Londoner appeared in the mini-series Howards End and The Four Daughters of Doctor March, followed by the English films Caravaggio and I, Old Boys and Ashes in the snow.

In 2018, Jonah starred in Luke’s family film The Incredible Adventures of Bella: A Medical Student Whose Dog Travels Hundreds of Miles to Find Her. He is next seen in the drama The Unknown Prodigy and most notably in the mini-series World on Fire, set during World War II, in which he plays a regular character.

With her popularity growing rapidly, Jonah is chosen to impersonate the young and handsome Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid. Directed by Rob Marshall, the film is a remake of the 1990 Disney classic. For reference, the role was first offered to singer Harry Styles (recently seen in Don’t Worry Darling), who declined the offer.
