Robert Downey Jr. is synonymous with Tony Stark since debuting as a billionaire playboy and philanthropist in Iron Man(2008). But before being cast to play the businessman, downey jr. was in talks to play an entirely different Marvel character.
In a new retrospective commemorating the 15th anniversary of the film that started the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Jon Favreau – who directed and starred in the films Iron Man like the assistant Happy Hogan – revealed that downey was initially interested in playing the antagonist of Fantastic Four (2005).
“I remember that you’ve all met Downey as Doctor Doom or something on another project,” he said. favreau during a conversation with Marvel’s top boss, Kevin Feige. “I think he appeared maybe in the Fantastic Fourso everybody kind of knew who he was.”

“Once I was him, that’s when my life got a lot easier,” he said. favreau. “Because he understood. He understood the character’s voice. And then, one by one, people signed on board because now it’s become something interesting.”
Feigewhich also recalled the cast of downey as a pivotal moment for the film that launched the MCUI told favreau: “That tone you and robert [Downey Jr.] discovered in that film, I would say it became the template in a way for much of what the MCU it became. .”
