Javier Bardem’s hilarious reaction to seeing himself as King Triton from ‘The Little Mermaid’ and other Disney characters created by Artificial Intelligence

tremendous. A hoot. Unforgettable.

It has been everything in the cinema: from the moving Ramón Sampedro in ‘The Sea Inside’ and the fearsome villain of the Coen Brothers in ‘No Country for Old Men’, to facing James Bond in ‘Skyfall’, strolling through Barcelona with Woody Allen or take ‘Los lunes al sol’ with Fernando León de Aranoa, whose latest work, ‘El buen patrón’, gave him the sixth Goya of his career for Best Actor. Now, immersed in the post-production of ‘Dune 2’, Javier Bardem wields King Triton’s trident in the live action remake of ‘The Little Mermaid’, the new Disney film in which he shares a cast with Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer -King and Melissa McCarthy. And on the occasion of its theatrical release, We have asked an Artificial Intelligence to imagine Javier Bardem in the skin of some of the most iconic and famous Disney animation characters. “It scares me”, the actor commented to Frames before seeing himself for the first time in the skin of Hercules, Buzz Lightyear, Tarzan, Aladdin, Bestia, Quasimodo, the grandfather of ‘UP’, Sully from ‘Monsters SA’, Mr. Incredible and (a big drum roll) King Triton.

“You have to change the movie poster”, Bardem commented between laughs when witnessing the hilarious result of the character he plays in ‘The Little Mermaid’: “But why that mesh”, he asked, unable to hold back his laughter when he saw himself in the image generated by Artificial Intelligence. You can see all his reactions in the video at the top of this article.

Javier Bardem reveals his favorite Disney movie and which character he would like to play

During his interview with Fotogramas, Javier Bardem also revealed that ‘UP’ is his favorite movie within the Disney factory: “I like it a lot, I find it very exciting,” he commented on the Pixar animated film directed by Pete Docter and Bob Peterson in 2009, winner of the Oscar for Best OST and Best Animated Film. “That 20-minute love story, flashbacks, how they meet, how she leaves… it broke me. I remember seeing her at the movies and thinking “what is this beauty?” Maybe then there’s a part of the film that interests me less, but it’s so beautiful and so well done…”

And when asked about the Disney character he would like to play in the future, aside from King Triton from ‘The Little Mermaid’, Javier Bardem gave a second headline: “I’d like to play the Hunchback of Notre Dame.” There have been many occasions on which there has been talk of the possibility that Disney is working on a live action remake of ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ and, taking into account the box office success of ‘The Little Mermaid’ against other great releases of the year such as ‘Fast and Furious X’, it is not unreasonable to think that Javier Bardem could apply to lead the cast of the film starring Quasimodo and Esmeralda: “I like that thing of being someone totally rejected by physicality and by the terror produced by what is different and what we fear”, the actor commented to Fotogramas. “It’s also what ‘The Little Mermaid’ works on and talks about: the fact of trying to get closer to what scares us and understanding that, in the end, more things unite us than what differentiates us.”

Time will tell if, beyond the seas ruled by King Triton, there is a place left in the Disney offices for Javier Bardem to ring the bells from the top of Our Lady of Paris.
