With The Little Mermaid now in theaters, poor King Triton is worth thinking about. OK, he may be very strict with his daughter Ariel and the path he has to take, but his overprotective feelings probably stem from the same fears and anxieties as any parent. The panic that something terrible could happen to your child is incalculable.
Sure, it’s easy to think so, given the curious anniversary that comes at the same time Disney history is being retold in remake form. Another aquatic adventure, less fantastic perhaps, but one that offers parents like Triton the chance to see their fears on screen and perhaps process them in a healthy way. Or, at the very least, enjoy some family entertainment, because Finding Nemo at least guarantees that.
