Brazil lose to Israel in extra time and are eliminated from the Under-20 World Cup

This Saturday, the Brazilian team lost to Israel 3-2, after extra time, and was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Under-20 World Cup. At the Bicentennial Stadium, Argentina, Brazil took the lead, but conceded the draw in regular time. In extra time, Matheus Fernandes scored, but Israel looked for an upset.

As a basis for the Selection, the Under-20s showed a not-so-good resemblance to the main squad: the difficulty of getting past the quarter-finals at a World Cup. As in the 2006, 2010, 2018 and 2022 World Cups, Brazil failed to reach the semi-finals and fell in the quarter-finals.

Now, Israel awaits the confrontation between the United States and Uruguay, this Sunday, at 18:00 (Brasilia time), at the Estádio Único Madre de Ciudades, to meet their semifinal opponent.

The game

Brazil had a lot of trouble creating offensively in the first half and saw Israel take control of the game. Just ten minutes into the second half, the team managed to impose itself, Matheus Martins carried the ball and passed it to Marcos Leonardo, who hit it first, into the left corner of the Israel goalkeeper, to open the markings.

Just four minutes later, Israel responded with Khalaili. Kancelpolski crossed from the left and the striker went up alone to equalize with a header. The two teams continued to play a very even match and Brazil even offered up dangerously in the closing minutes, but failed to perfect their last touch to come away with victory in regulation time.

In extra time, the team went full steam ahead in pursuit of the goal. With just one minute the team led by Ramon Menezes builds a good play on the right, Marlon plays for Andrey, who passes to Matheus Fernandes, who dominates and shoots low to give Brazil the lead again. But just like in regular time, Israel equalized just two minutes later. After a cross from the right, the Brazilian defense let the ball pass and Shibli seemed to push inside.

In the 18th minute of the first overtime, Turgeman takes advantage of the Brazilian area, dribbles past Jean Pedroso and Douglas, closes strong, without chances for Kaique and scores a great goal. Six minutes into the second half, the referee awarded Israel a penalty for touching his hand. Kaique defended, but then committed another penalty, which Ibrahim eliminated. Brazil tried to find an equaliser, but failed to create clear chances. On the few occasions he had, he failed to make the last touch and ended up eliminated.
