Djokovic beats Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas and reaches the quarterfinals at Roland Garros

Serbian Novak Djokovic, currently number 3 in the world, qualified this Sunday for the quarterfinals of the Roland Garros tournament. The classification came after defeating the Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas (94th), in 3 sets to 0, with partials of 6-3, 6-2 and 6-2, in one hour and 57 minutes.

Djokovic ended the game without major problems and, with this victory, the Serbian will now play the quarterfinals in Paris for the 14th time in a row. With 17 in total, the Serbian surpassed Rafael Nadal’s record of 16.

Against Varillas, the first Peruvian player to reach the round of 16 of a Grand Slam since Jaime Yzaga at the 1994 US Open, Djokovic made clear his superiority, with solid tennis and virtually no mistakes.

“It’s the first time we’ve played, I know he’s a specialist on clay, he has a very constant game. I’m happy because this week I definitely showed the highest level”, commented the Serbian after the match.

Djokovic’s next opponent will be Russian Karen Khachanov, who previously knocked out Italian Lorenzo Sonego 3 sets to 1.
