Gerson celebrates for surrendering to a more offensive role with Samapolis

Flamengo’s victory over Racing this Thursday (8), for the Libertadores, had a very important value for the team, which was closer to qualifying for the round of 16. But he also stood out for midfielder Gerson, who started another good performance. The detail is that the number 20 stages a good sequence by acting in a more offensive way, in a style that he has begun to adopt since coach Jorge Sampaoli took over the team.

Gerson worked with the Argentinian at Olympique de Marseille in France and played closer to the box. Since Sampaoli’s arrival at Flamengo, ‘Coringa’ has never returned to being a defensive midfielder and has been decisive in the last few matches. This Thursday, it was passing him to Wesley’s goal, having received a pass from Arrascaeta. The player celebrated the good performance and underlines that he feels better and better in this role.

“Sampaoli likes to use me more up front. It’s easier for me because I already know his job. It didn’t cost much to adapt. I’m happy to be of help, to give assistance, and now it’s a matter of continuing to evolve. I’m going home because soon I have to be there at the club and they don’t play, no (laughs)” said Gerson, also congratulating Wesley, to whom he gave advice:

“I’m very happy for Wesley. He calls me dad, even though I’m only seven years older. But he’s a guy who deserves it, he works hard, so I’m happy with what’s going on in his life. If the advice was good, we didn’t give them, we sold them. But I try to guide him a bit, like everyone else. He listens a lot and is reaping the fruits.”
