Madonna wrapped up Thursday night (6/8) with the release of “Vulgar”, the first song made in collaboration with singer Sam Smith. The song was made available by the British channel on YouTube.
The lyrics of “Vulgar” praise the artist rudely, sparing no profanity. The sound is marked by an insistent electronic beat with an oriental vibe, very different from the duo’s conventional pop.
“Boy, get on your knees, get on your knees ’cause I’m Madonna/ If you fuck with Sam today/ You fuck with me,” decrees the Queen of Pop.
“Vulgar” is Sam Smith’s first new song this year, while Madonna enlists her second collaboration following the release of “Popular,” crafted with The Weeknd and Playboi Carti.
unprecedented collaboration
The pair bonded at this year’s Grammys, when Madonna presented the performance of “Unholy (feat. Kim Petras).” Sam Smith’s song was awarded Best Pop Performance.
At the awards show, Madonna teased the press before announcing the artist: “Are you guys ready for some controversy? If they’re calling you shocking, scandalous, troublemaker, problematic, provocative or dangerous, you’re definitely on the right track.”
The ‘Vulgar’ partnership includes producers Ilya, Cirkut, Omer Fedi, Ryan Tedder, Jimmy Napes and Lauren D’elia, who were also part of the ‘Unholy’ team.
