A DC blockbuster whose film version has nothing to do with the original director’s vision. Thankfully, we get to watch a much better version of the movie than we saw in theaters.
Few reshoots in the past 10 years have been as legendarily atrocious as Justice League. When the DC blockbuster was finally released in 2017, it was nothing like first-time director Zack Snyder’s (300) original vision. It is available to stream today on HBO Max.
DC fans should ignore the theatrical release of Justice League
Several books could be filled with DC’s Justice League filming issues. From the beginning, the production studio Warner was not very fond of directing the dark story of Snyder, who had to fight hard for many of his ideas. When he retired from filming due to a private tragedy, he was replaced by Marvel veteran Joss Whedon (The Avengers). For the film it was a fatal blow.
Whedon and Warner filmed additional scenes and deleted many of the film’s Snyder sequences. The result was a box office hit in which the ideas of two directors and their storylines in different formats vied for the top spot.
Thankfully, after the film’s release, many of Snyder’s fans started suing to get justice for his vision. Eventually, the director was allowed to release a four-hour alternate version of the film called Justice League – Snyder Cut on Warner’s streaming service, HBO Max.
