It’s called a busy year. Nominated for a César for Best Animated Feature last February for Ernest and Celestine: Journey to Charabi (with Jean-Christophe Rogers), Julien Cheng also became the first French director to work on the Star Wars franchise on May 4th!
With the second season of the anthology series Star Wars: Visions due, this animation virtuoso wrote and directed the episode titled The Dancing Spy. This ten-minute short film takes place in a cabaret frequented by Imperial forces and whose star dancer is none other than a figure of rebellion.
Inspired by the true story of Mata-Hari and Josephine Baker, Julien Cheng put all his imagination and personal knowledge into the service of this intergalactic saga. The Dancing Spy It’s also one of the most popular episodes of Star Wars: Visions by Disney+ subscribers around the world!
The director’s visit to our Animehameha podcast show was also an opportunity to discuss with him the news of the La Cachette studio, co-founded with Oussama Bouacheria and Ulysse Malassagne, also graduates of the famous Gobelins school in Paris.
