Remember that comedy that Cameron Diaz used to host called Bad Teacher? If you haven’t seen it, you’re definitely not missing out, judging by AlloCiné’s viewer ratings, which give it a 2.1/5 rating with over 7,200 votes. But did you know that the movie spawned a series?
The film tells the story of Elizabeth Halsey (Diaz), a teacher who makes fun of children and is waiting for only one thing: to get married in order to quit. Except he throws it away. So she targets the substitute teacher who just arrived… but she’s not the only one interested.
Cameron Diaz
The character in the series is a little different. Her name is Meredith Davis (Ari Graynor, seen in Fringe and Miss America) and she is a figure dumped by her fiance before the wedding, who joins an expensive school to meet men there. Rich to replace one. who abandoned him. And obviously, he hates children.

Where it doesn’t work is that Meredith’s character isn’t evil for very long. The comedy is based on the recurring pattern of a heroine who misbehaves (avoids work or looks for a husband), repents, and makes amends/helps children in need. A short series called Bad Teacher!

Ryan Hansen and Ari Gravnor
Above all, in addition to Graynor’s presence, the series offers brilliant supporting roles, such as Kristin Davis (Sex and the City), who plays Meredith’s nemesis, Ryan Hansen (Veronica Mars) or David Alan Grier (Living Color), but who cannot swim. Reason ? The series doesn’t give them much to play outside of very caricatural roles and especially in many sitcoms already seen.
Had the movie been a success, the series, the only single-camera sitcom on CBS, would have lasted only 13 episodes before being canceled… bad news!
