Manchester City beat Inter to win the Champions League for the first time

Pep Guardiola’s team reached the coveted European title with a 1-0 victory with a goal from Rodri

Europe is Manchester City for the first time. He was sweaty, it was far from a walk in the park, but the team led by Pep Guardiola confirmed their favoritism and beat Inter 1-0, with a goal from Rodri, and won their first Champions League.

With the European cup, City managed to confirm the Triple Crown. Before the decision in Turkey, the English team had already won the Premier League and FA Cup titles.

The game

Inter entered the pitch knowing that ball control is Manchester City’s main weapon. For this reason, Simone Inzaghi did not want to wait for the opponent and put his team under pressure on the English, preventing them from calmly exchanging passes in midfield. The bearing of the Italians surprised, and Pep Guardiola’s men took a while to impose their superiority on the pitch.

The best chance of the first stage fell from Haaland’s feet. The Norwegian striker received deep but ended up hitting Onana’s good defence. City have yet to lose Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian midfielder suffered a thigh muscle injury and had to make way for Phil Phoden before 40 minutes, repeating the drama of the decision two years ago against Chelsea, when he suffered a broken face and also left the decision in advance.

By the return of the break, nervousness about a Champions League decision took hold of both sides. With each appointment (or non-appointment) of the Polish referee Szymon Marciniak, many complaints.

In the 13th minute, Inter had their best chance after Lukaku came on for Džeko. The Belgian forward was waiting free in the area after Lautaro had taken advantage of a blunder by Akanji, but the Argentine tried to shoot and stopped Ederson’s good defense.

And if the forwards don’t solve it, Rodri seems to open the scoring for Manchester City in the 22nd minute. He received it at the entrance to Bernardo Silva’s area and landed on Onana’s left, with no chances for the Cameroon goalkeeper. It is the Spanish midfielder’s fourth goal of the season.

Shortly after Dimarco hits Ederson’s crossbar and on the rebound the ball ends up exploding on Lautaro, who acts as a City defender and ends up involuntarily preventing Inter from equalizing.

Manchester City knew how to control the game after taking the lead on the scoreboard and when under pressure they had Ederson. The Brazilian goalkeeper performs a real miracle in the 43rd minute with a point-blank header from Lukaku that avoids the draw.
